Power Cycling

Power Cycling

With the latest version of the safety system available, we have developed the command line utilities that can examine or change the power status of machine partitions:
  • To check the power status of a machine partition:
        /qcdoc/local/etc/powerstatus rack20-21

  • To poweroff a machine partition:
        /qcdoc/local/etc/poweroff rack24-27

  • To poweron a machine partition:
        /qcdoc/local/etc/poweron rack19

  • To powercycle (first off and then on) a machine partition:
        /qcdoc/local/etc/powercycle rack19

Only the user that has the machine partition allocated can examine or change its power status. Keep in mind that we cannot powercycle anything smaller than a machine rack (1024 nodes). Thus, we cannot powercycle a single crate (like rack17/crate0) or a single motherboard (like rack16/crate0/slot0) or an Air Cooled Crate (ACC) motherboard (like acc5/slot2).

One of ten national laboratories overseen and primarily funded by the Office of Science of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Brookhaven National Laboratory conducts research in the physical, biomedical, and environmental sciences, as well as in energy technologies and national security. Brookhaven Lab also builds and operates major scientific facilities available to university, industry and government researchers. Brookhaven is operated and managed for DOE's Office of Science by Brookhaven Science Associates, a limited-liability company founded by Stony Brook University, the largest academic user of Laboratory facilities, and Battelle, a nonprofit, applied science and technology organization.
