QBATCH: Queues on ACC Motherboards

Batch Queues available on ACC MotherBoards

  • Four MBds on Air Cooled Crates have been reserved for batch jobs and can only be used with PBS jobs. For RBRC users, the four reserved MBs are on ACC8 (slot0-3); for USDOE users they are on ACC7 (slot4-7).
  • Each of the four reserved MBds has been assigned to a queue with limited walltime: OneHr, FourHr, EightHr and SixteenHr.
  • To submit a job to one of the ACC MBs you should copy the file qbatch.pbs from $QBATCH_HOME and indicate the queue name in the line #PBS -q Queue. For example, to submit a job that will run for up to one hour on one of the four reserved ACC MBds, set: #PBS -q OneHr
  • As with all the QCDOC PBS queues, there can only be one running job per queue. If several jobs are submitted to the same queue, only one will start running and the rest will be queued. If there are no jobs running in the other queues, PBS will try to move queued jobs to other empty queues as long as the jobs can fit there. More specifically, a job with a one hour walltime limit can fit into the FourHr or EightHr or SixteenHr queue. The opposite is not true though; long jobs (say from the SixteenHr) won't fit into short queues.
  • An example on how to run a simple batch job on an ACC MotherBoard is described in the Quick Start section, above.

One of ten national laboratories overseen and primarily funded by the Office of Science of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Brookhaven National Laboratory conducts research in the physical, biomedical, and environmental sciences, as well as in energy technologies and national security. Brookhaven Lab also builds and operates major scientific facilities available to university, industry and government researchers. Brookhaven is operated and managed for DOE's Office of Science by Brookhaven Science Associates, a limited-liability company founded by Stony Brook University, the largest academic user of Laboratory facilities, and Battelle, a nonprofit, applied science and technology organization.
