QCDOC Computer Accounts

In order to access and use QCDOC computing resources at BNL you will need:

  • a QCDOC Front-End computer account, and
  • a QCDOC ssh gateway account

US LQCD or RBRC Front-End Computer Accounts

Front-End computer accounts allow members of the US LQCD or RBRC collaborations to access QCDOC computing resources at BNL. These resources include the IBM p655 front-end node, storage and archiving systems and, of course, the QCDOC machine partitions. Requesting a QCDOC computer account is a multi-step process. Detailed instructions are provided in How to get a Front-End QCDOC Computer Account.

QCDOC ssh gateway account

In order to access QCDOC computing resources remotely (including BNL users outside the QCDOC network enclave) you will need an account on the QCDOC ssh gateways (known as ssh.qcdoc.bnl.gov outside BNL and ssh.qcdoc.bnl.local within BNL). Logging into the front-end node remotely is a two-hop process: first you need to login into the ssh gateway and then ssh from there to the front-end node (one-hop logging into the front end node is possible via ssh tunneling). The QCDOC ssh gateways can also be used to stage or tunnel data to the storage systems.

NOTE: QCDOC ssh gateway accounts are created automatically along with your QCDOC computer account. You do not need to request a gateway account separately.

NOTE: The QCDOC ssh gateway servers are administered by the ITD Unix group, not by QCDOC staff. Password requests or other admin questions should be directed to the ITD HelpDesk.

One of ten national laboratories overseen and primarily funded by the Office of Science of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Brookhaven National Laboratory conducts research in the physical, biomedical, and environmental sciences, as well as in energy technologies and national security. Brookhaven Lab also builds and operates major scientific facilities available to university, industry and government researchers. Brookhaven is operated and managed for DOE’s Office of Science by Brookhaven Science Associates, a limited-liability company founded by Stony Brook University, the largest academic user of Laboratory facilities, and Battelle, a nonprofit, applied science and technology organization.
